What is Naturopathic Medicine?

Naturopathic medicine is a holistic, evidence-informed approach to healthcare that focuses on identifying and treating the root causes of illness and disease, not just masking symptoms.

Naturopathic doctors are regulated primary health care providers in Ontario and diagnose and treat both acute and chronic conditions while emphasizing disease prevention and early intervention. They work collaboratively with other healthcare professionals and support patients through health transitions, chronic disease management, and wellness optimization using an individualized, whole-person approach.

Through personalized care that may include functional laboratory testing, tailored supplementation, herbal medicine, clinical nutrition, acupuncture, and lifestyle counselling, Naturopathic Doctors support the body’s innate ability to heal. Treatment plans are collaborative, individualized, and designed to help you feel informed, empowered, and supported in your health journey.

My focus is on restoring balance and supporting long-term wellness by helping you build sustainable habits that serve you now and in the future. I collaborate with you to create realistic, achievable health goals and meet you wherever you are in your journey.

The 6 Naturopathic Guiding Principles

  1. First, do no harm — NDs prioritize the most natural, least invasive, and least toxic treatment approaches.

  2. The healing power of nature — The body naturally possesses the ability to heal itself, and this process can be supported and strengthened.

  3. Identify and treat the root cause — While symptom relief has its place, the true goal is uncovering the underlying causes of illness and addressing the obstacles to cure.

  4. Treat the whole person — True medicine takes a holistic approach, recognizing that physical, mental, emotional, spiritual, lifestyle, and environmental factors are all deeply interconnected.

  5. Doctor as teacher — NDs prioritize patient health literacy, guiding individuals to better understand what it takes to achieve and maintain health.

  6. Prevention and health promotion — Proactive care is more effective than reacting to illness after it develops, with the goal of preventing suffering and promoting health whenever possible.
