Child's Health Checkup

Pediatrics

My practice places a strong emphasis on pediatric health, offering guidance and support from infancy through the transition to young adulthood.

Early childhood into young adult hood is a critical window for building lifelong health. Supporting children with healthy nutrition, strong digestion, balanced immune function, quality sleep, and emotional resilience lays the foundation for long-term wellness and disease prevention. The habits and patterns established in these early years can have lasting effects well into adulthood.

My approach focuses on gentle, evidence-based support tailored to each child’s unique needs. By working closely with both parents and children, care emphasizes education, healthy routines, and age-appropriate strategies that empower children to understand their bodies and advocate for themselves as they grow.

Common conditions encountered in this population include and are not limited to: recurrent ear/respiratory/skin/urinary tract infections, allergies, attention challenges, behavioural changes, emotional regulation, ADHD, sleep issues, tics, regression, anxiety or stress-related issues, food intolerances, colic, eczema, viral rashes (chickenpox, measles, rubella), diaper rash, cradle cap, asthma, bronchitis, pneumonia, irregular menstrual cycles, constipation, diarrhea.

Key Areas Assessed Include:

  • Developmental history, including pregnancy, birth, early milestones, and early childhood health

  • Timeline of symptoms, noting sudden onset versus gradual changes (particularly relevant in PANS/PANDAS)

  • Neurodevelopmental patterns, including social engagement, sensory sensitivities, communication, and executive function

  • Behavioral and emotional regulation, including mood, anxiety, irritability, and stress tolerance

  • Immune and infection history, including frequent illnesses, strep exposure, or post-infectious change

  • Gastrointestinal health, noting the gut-brain-skin connection

  • Dietary patterns and nutritional intake, including picky eating, food sensitivities, and appetite changes

  • Sleep quality and routines

  • Environmental exposures, including household toxins and allergens

  • Medication and supplement history, including stimulant medications, antibiotics, or psychiatric supports

  • Family history of neurodevelopmental, autoimmune, or mental health conditions

Functional Testing:

When clinically appropriate, functional and conventional testing helps identify modifiable contributors, guide targeted support, and establish safe baselines for monitoring progress. Testing is chosen thoughtfully and explained clearly to caregivers to support informed decisions.

Common areas evaluated may include:

  • Nutrient status, particularly iron status, zinc, magnesium, vitamin D, and B vitamins

  • Markers of inflammation or immune activation, especially in suspected PANS/PANDAS

  • Gut health and microbiome balance

  • Food sensitivities or immune-mediated reactions when eczema, asthma, or allergic symptoms are present

  • Metabolic or thyroid markers, if symptoms suggest involvement

Individualized Treatment Plan:

Treatment plans are gentle, developmentally appropriate, and family-centered, focusing on supporting the child’s physiology while respecting their individuality and neurodiversity. The goal is not to change the child, but to reduce barriers to thriving.

Treatment plans may include:

  • Personalized nutrition strategies, supporting stable blood sugar, brain development, and immune regulation

  • Targeted supplementation, addressing deficiencies with child-appropriate dosing and formulations

  • Botanical and nutraceutical support, selected conservatively for safety, tolerability, and evidence

  • Gut health support, addressing digestion, microbiome balance, and nutrient absorption

  • Immune modulation strategies, particularly in post-infectious or inflammatory presentations

  • Support for attention, emotional regulation, and sensory processing, through nutrition, lifestyle, and nervous system regulation

  • Sleep optimization, including routines and circadian rhythm support

  • Environmental modifications, reducing exposure to potential triggers

  • Parent education and coaching, empowering caregivers with tools and understanding

  • Collaborative care, working alongside pediatricians, developmental specialists, psychologists, speech and occupational therapists

  • Ongoing monitoring and adjustment, adapting care as the child grows and develop
